Yvon Introduces accessories for GD-PROFILERT Glow Discharge
OES that Extend the Range of Applications
Glow Discharge Spectroscopy is a fast elemental depth profiling technique for surface, interface and bulk analysis of materials. It relies on the sputtering of the sample to be analyzed and the measurement of the sputtered particles in a low pressure plasma.
The technique has been traditionally limited to flat samples with analysis spots of typically 2 mm to 4 mm in diameter. There was a need to extend the capabilities of the glow discharge technique to non-flat samples, odd shapes surfaces (tubes, rods, screw heads, etc) and also to characterize even smaller samples.
This is now possible with the introduction of a 1 mm anode for small samples (or small spots on larger ones) and the development of a universal sample holder.
This sample holder offers great flexibility in terms of sample capability. It assures excellent, reproducible positioning of the samples by maintaining the distance between the sample and anode to a constant. It can be adapted with various ceramic inserts selected to fit most of the applications. These inserts prevent the Argon flow to escape around the sample and provide containment for the plasma.
